The Canadian Fitness, Lifestyle and Research Institute (CFLRI) welcomes the Government of Canada’s renewed commitment to sport and physical activity as outlined in the 2026 Spring Economic Update.
This investment represents an important step toward strengthening Canada’s sport system and promoting healthier, more active communities across the country. By supporting participation at all levels—from recreational to high performance—the federal government is reinforcing the vital role that sport and physical activity play in improving physical health, mental well-being, and social cohesion.
CFLRI is particularly encouraged by measures that aim to increase accessibility and inclusion in sport. Ensuring that all Canadians, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic background, have opportunities to be active is essential to building a stronger and more equitable society.
“These significant investments in sport demonstrates commitment to the health and well-being of Canadians,” said Christine Cameron, CFLRI President. “This commitment will help create more opportunities for all individuals and families to lead active and healthy lifestyles.”
CFLRI looks forward to continued collaboration with government and sector partners to ensure that these investments translate into meaningful outcomes for communities across Canada. Ongoing support for research and data will be critical in measuring progress and guiding future evidence-based policy decisions.
